The protests against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project on Tuesday spread to Chennai with members of various parties and outfits being arrested for staging road blockade in various parts of the city.

As anti-nuclear activists resumed their protest at Kudankulam Tuesday, they got a boost from Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa who reiterated that New Delhi must not proceed with the nuclear power project without allaying the fears of the people.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday told a multi-party delegation from Tamil Nadu that a high-level committee would address their concerns on safety of the 1,000 MW Kudankulam nuclear power project.
