Legendary painter M.F. Husain had his heart in Bollywood and many from the film industry have expressed grief over his demise on Thursday.

Celebrated painter M.F. Husain died at Royal Brompton Hospital in London at 2.30 am local time, family sources say. He was 95. Husain died in exile from his homeland in India, having become a citizen of Qatar in 2006.

Ebullient and eccentric at the same time, barefoot painter Maqbool Fida Husain took Indian art to the global stage with his cubist-inspired modern art but was riled in controversy with his paintings on Hindu deities.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday condoled the death of celebrated Indian artist M.F. Husain in London, terming it as a “national loss”.

Friends and admirers of M.F. Husain were on Thursday at a loss of words at the demise of the painter famously dubbed “Piccaso of India” and angry at the fact that he had to die in a foreign land.
