300 huts gutted in major fire
Over 300 huts were gutted in a major fire that broke out in the hutments area in Ashok Nagar on Jawaharlal Nehru Road behind the ESI hospital on Sunday night.
“As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot from various fire stations. Another 10 metro water tankers were also sent to the scene to back the fire tenders. As of now we are not aware of any causalities,” said the fire control room.
The fire affected flow of vehicles on the busy Inner Ring Road. “We have to block the traffic on the road to facilitate the movement of fire tenders,” a police official said from the scene. Lack of current also hindered the fire fighters, the police noted. The narrow lines inside the colony made it difficult for the fire fighters to go inside.
It took more than an hour and a half for fire tenders to douse the flames. The fire fighters could salvage only some of the houses due to the narrow lanes.
