36 shops razed in Tambaram
Tambaram municipality on Saturday continued its drive against encroachments in congested areas.
More than three dozen shops have been razed in the drive that is aimed at decongesting Tambaram market and the bus stand adjoining it.
The residents of Tambaram and adjoining areas had for long been demanding a permanent bus stand in Tambaram west.
However, with the illegal flower market and unauthorised parking in the three-decade-old Anna bus stand, this did not materialise. Buses were forced to park in the middle of the road because of the illegal shops and unauthorised vehicles parked in the bus stand taking up all the space. This resulted in traffic jam for long hours.
The Tambaram municipality, acting upon representations from motorists and transport authorities, evicted the flower market, which had 62 illegal shops and removed unauthorised cars parked in the bus stand on Saturday.
