57-year-old woman park staff found dead
Tension prevailed inside the Guindy National Park on Saturday morning after a 57-year-old woman forest watcher was found dead.
The forest department staff said the unmarried woman forest watcher was diabetic and died in her sleep.
However insiders maintained that the watcher had been demanding a transfer for the past few months and wanted to go to her native place in Tuticorin to lead a stress free life.
She was alone and not comfortable with her stay and wanted transfer so that she could stay with her adopted son.
It is alleged that extreme stress, delay in getting transfer and lack of medical attention may have resulted in Kala’s death.
She was on probation for a very long time and got her job regularised only few years back, insiders added.
When contacted, a local forest official confirmed that the watcher was an ailing diabetic patient suffering blood pressure.
On Friday night, she was in fact referred to the Royapettah General Hospital by a nearby clinic, but she had no relative or friend to take her to the hospital.
“We informed her adopted son about the situation and the son was on his way to take his mom to the government hospital. But before his arrival Kala collapsed inside the forest quarters where she was staying,” an official said.
Denying that she was under stress, the official said that any government employee was eligible for medical leave but Kala never insisted on medical leave.
Her transfer was delayed as her reliever was yet to arrive and join service, the official explained.
