6,000 Chennaiites do surya namaskar

The Marina beach, a favourite haunt for early morning joggers, turned into an arena to showcase Surya Namaskar. As the dawn broke, over 6,000 persons gathered to perform the sun salutations in absolute rhythm.

The Surya Namaskar marathon organised by Art of Living to celebrate World Health Day was flagged off by state health minister Dr. V.S. Vijay. The minister too joined the yoga enthusiasts by performing a few rounds of Surya Namaskar, according to a release here on Saturday.

Chennai mayor Saidai Duraisamy (in picture above) distributed gold certificates to a few of 503 participants who had completed the yogathon challenge of completing 108 Surya Namaskars.
