6.4 lakh write for state jobs

The combined subordinate services exams CSSE – I organised by the Tamil Nadu public service commission (TNPSC) took place in 114 centres across all the 32 districts of the state. As many as 6.4 lakh candidates appeared for the exams and wrote examinations to fill 3,631 vacancies.

The announcement for group – II exams was made on June 13. Sunday, the candidates wrote examinations for the posts of sub-registrars, officers for commercial taxes, secretariat officers, municipal commissioners etc. The examinations for general English and general Tamil papers took place in 3,456 centres across the state. In Chennai, candidates took their exams in 290 schools that were converted into exam centres.

“All the centres were monitored with surveillance cameras,” said TNPSC member secretary Udhaya Chandran. Over 50,000 government staff were deployed as invigilators and as members of the flying squad. In order to prevent irregularities, 400 flying squads headed by collectors, tahsildars and government officers were formed, he added.

Some of the candidates in the city who had come to take the Group – II exams complained that the address of the venue in their hall ticket was printed wrong and they ended up wasting more than an hour due to the carelessness of the commission. They appealed the commission to conduct a re-exam for them. “If there are any complaints we will promptly look into it,” a TNPSC officer said.
