675 more buses rolled out
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in keeping with her commitment of fulfilling the public transportation needs of the state, introduced a fleet of 675 new buses and launched 286 new routes for State Transport Corporation on Thursday. This is a part of her earlier announcement to add to the 3,000 new buses for STC for improving its services and providing better connectivity across the State. With this massive introduction the STC fleet strength has gone up to 20,500 buses.
Having already launched a record number of 1000 buses just a few months ago, in September, Ms. Jayalalithaa flagged off the new 675 buses at a function organised at the MTC central depot here on Thursday morning. Of the 675 buses, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Coimbatore (TNSTC –Coimbatore), has got the highest share of 174 buses, which would operate between 55 new routes. This is followed by the TNSTC -Villupuram that has been allocated a total number of 169 buses. that will operate between 70 new routes.
TNSTC -Salem has been allocated 137 buses to operate between 45 new routes and TNSTC -Kumbakonam has been allotted 69 buses in the same number of routes, and TNSTC- Madurai has been allotted 10 buses to play between 10 new routes.
TNSTC- Tirunelveli has been allotted 75 buses and Chennai’s MTC received 28 buses. Also, SETC’s long distance operating buses, has achieved the total allocation meant for it-which is 3000 buses.
