7 complaints against councillors
In the past six months, more than seven cases of councillors attacking corporation staff and contractors have been recorded.
The contractors also recently submitted a petition to the corporation top brass complaining about councillors disrupting their civic works.
Subsequently, CM J. Jayalalithaa also pulled up the errant councillors and warned them that the council will be dissolved if things were not set right.
In Mylapore zone, the local councillor sold a tea shop-owner’s bunk and the police got it back for him, recalls Mr Saidai Ravi, former opposition floor leader in the corporation.
A senior corporation official admitted to DC that councillors often go overboard, leading to employees resorting to strike or taking leave. Whenever the issue is serious, local field officials register a police complaint.
