Aavin to run more mobile parlours
It started on a small scale about a week ago, to cater to the needs of people on the fringes of the city.
The response to the mobile parlour initiative so far has been so encouraging that the state overnment-owned Aavin has now decided to add two more such parlours.
“It was only last week that we had introduced a mobile parlour to cater to the areas on the outskirts of the city that were not served as they lacked Aavin parlours. Several families in Tambaram and Perumbakkam areas seem to be overjoyed as they are now able to purchase our products and as a result of their patronage we plan to introduce two more mobile vans,” an official told Deccan Chronicle on Saturday.
The mobile parlours dispense items such as Aavin butter, ghee, ice cream, khova, gulab jamoon, Mysore pa, badam mix powder and buttermilk at the door steps.
“This mobile milk parlour service is highly appreciated by the consumers. The average sale per day is 25,000-30,000 litres,” he said.
Today Aavin reintroduced the cheese in its Chennai parlours and this is priced at Rs 85 per 200 grams.
The cheese was out of market for nearly five years. On an average about 150 kg cheese is being sold now.
The cheese is produced at the Nilgiris District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. Depending on the response, Aavin (Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd) will step up cheese production.
