Anakaputhur weaver bags international recognition
C. Sekar, a weaver from Anakaputhur, has earned yet another international recognition for his work.
With the help of his friend an IIT alumnus Rajashekhar, Sekar came to know about B.I.D (Business Initiative Directions) and the 37th International Star for Quality Convention, an annual programme of B.I.D to be held in Geneva on September 29 and 30.
“With the help of my friend I submitted a paper on my work of making saris using 25 varieties of natural fibres such as cotton, jute, pineapple, bamboo, recycled silk and wool.
We have already entered the Limca Books of Records for making the sari. I submitted my work in January and last month we received a letter that our Anakaputhur Natural Fibres Textiles Consortium Private
Limited has won the International Star for Quality Award under the ‘gold category’,” informed Sekar.
“I don’t have money to visit Switzerland.
If the government or someone supports me, I will be happy to visit Geneva and receive the award on behalf of our Anakaputhur weavers,” said Sekar.
