Anna supporters protest in front of PC house, held
As many as 70 persons belonging to India Against Corruption were picked up Sunday by the Chennai police when they staged a protest in front of the Pycrofts Garden Road residence of Union home minister P. Chidambaram in Nungambakkam.
The protesters, mainly supporters of Anna Hazare who were wearing Gandhi caps and holding placards and the national flag, raised slogans against Mr Chidambaram.
They demanded an enquiry by a special investigation team into the allegations of corruption against 15 Central ministers, including the Union home minister.
The protestors, most of them the youth brigade, squatted in front of Mr Chidambaram’s house. On police intervention, they – men and women - were bundled into vans – some of them forcibly - and removed from the spot.
“All the arrested were released by the police later in the evening,” informed a senior city police official.
Following the sudden protest, security has been tightened in the area.
On Saturday, Team Anna supporters had staged a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi in a similar fashion.
