Baby boy crawls under school van, gets crushed
A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was crushed to death at Annanur on Monday when he crawled under a van that was parked in front of his house to take his two brothers to school.
The infant, Sanjay, son of teashop owner Anandan, came under the back wheel of the vehicle. Sanjay’s mother Meena had taken him along with her while sending her two elder sons to school.
Apparently, she made the infant stand near her to help the elder kids board the school van. At that time Sanjay crawled under the vehicle. Meena, however, failed to notice this.
“Meena was holding Sanjay’s hand and was helping her other kids — Santhosh, 6, and Sudhakar, 3. In between, Sanjay wriggled out of her hand and crawled under the van.
By the time she saw the boy and tried to pull him out, it was too late,” the police said. Police arrested the van driver Mohan, 50.
This is the third fatal accident in the past six days in which school vehicles were involved. A six-year-old girl died after she fell through a hole on the floor of the school bus she was travelling back home in Mudichur on last Wednesday.
In another case in Ambur an LKG girl was crushed under the wheel after she fell from the vehicle while getting down from the school bus near Ambur.
