Bank on small savings, says CM
The salubrious hills here reverberated with the cheering of thousands of excited locals and AIADMK members as chief minister J. Jayalalithaa stepped out of her Kodanad estate and inaugurated an ATM unit at the adjacent Kodanad viewpoint on Wednesday afternoon.
Opening the ATM of the Bank of India (BoI) and also its renovated branch at Elada, the chief minister stressed the importance of small savings, pointing out that small drops made an ocean.
Lauding the BoI for making steady progress over the years to become one of the topflight banks in the country, Ms Jayalalithaa praised the bank for coming forward to open an ATM to help the public and plantation labourers living in hamlets around the Kodanad slopes.
“When river water is rightly saved and used for irrigation, it helps boost agriculture and paves the way for prosperity of living beings. Similarly, people should inculcate in them the habit of saving their hard earned money to see that it becomes useful to them and the country. By saving money in the form of small savings, be rest assured that the money is safe and multiplies as good interest is given to small savings,” she pointed out.
The bankers should serve customers in such a way to bring happiness and prosperity in their lives. They should lend loans with low interest and more instalments to help the poor living in this part of the hills. The people should also be regular in their repayment, she advised.
BoI executive director M.S. Raghavan gave a special address. The AIADMK cadres under their Nilgiris district secretary K.R. Arjunan accorded a rousing reception to Ms Jayalalithaa.
