In other parts of the city, the corporation will strictly enforce the ban on posters and banners. Making this announcements at the council, Chennai mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said the corporation was keen on banning posters and banners on city roads.
Similarly, places where political parties regularly conduct meetings will be identified and a deposit amount and a charge will be collected from parties so that flag-posts and festoons can be allowed within the stipulated area.
In case of violations, political parties would have to forfeit the deposit money, he said.
Senior AIADMK councillor Sukumar Babu wanted to know from the mayor on the nature of works that can be carried out by councillors under the ward development fund which totals about to Rs 30 lakh per annum.
“Amma is keen on developing the city and the councillors should know what kind of civic works can be carried out under the ward allocations and there is a need for a detailed action plan,” he said.
Earlier in the day, opposition DMK councillors were evicted after their floor leader Subash Chandra Bose wanted to take up the issue of poor maintenance of parks inaugurated during the DMK regime.
