Bomb threat to atomic plants, airports
An unknown Christian outfit has issued bomb threats to Kalpakkam Atomic power station, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and international and domestic airports, protesting against “implicating” John Prabakar, a Christian in the multi-crore Paazee scam.
It is alleged that John Prabakar acted as benani to prime accused in the case and top cop Pramod Kumar.
In a registered letter addressed to Mr S.C. Chetal, director of Kalpakkam Atomic power station on Wednesday evening, the outfit, Veera kirusthava ilaignar pasarai, warned that it had planted powerful bombs at the atomic power station, airports and flyover opposite the airport.
In the Tamil handwritten letter, the outfit said the bombs were programmed to go off on May 12. Mr Chetal handed over the letter to the Kalpakkam police, after which, Kancheepuram district Superintendent of police S. Monoharan enhanced the security arrangements at all these places.
“It looks like a hoax, but we do not want to take any chance and tightened the security and pressed into service, bomb disposal squads,” he said adding the squad was conducting the search till late Wednesday night.
After the SP alerted, airport authorities enhanced the security, both at the international and domestic airports.
The existing four-tier security has been enhanced to seven-tier, airport sources said. The authorities also launched a search with the help of bomb disposal squads, the sources said.
