Bus terminus in morning, hub for crooks at night
The Adambakkam NGO Colony bus terminus has become a cause of bother for the residents of the area.
The bus terminus, which is ill-maintained, is being used by anti-socials as a brothel and also for drinking at night, complain the residents.
On Sundays, the terminus transforms into a cricket ground for the children of the area. Private operators use the place as a free parking zone.
A part of the complex has also been turned into a permanent dumping yard by some residents of the area while the civic body uses it as a garbage transfer point.
The smell from the garbage makes life miserable for the people of the area, especially the passengers who enter the bus terminus.
“The place has become a dumping yard for a few people, especially meat sellers who dump animal waste here, causing hardship to passengers and MTC staff,” said a conductor of M9 route.
Residents said that the poor illumination helps antisocials used the terminus for illegal activities at night.
“Some people drink here and even use this place as a brothel, thanks to the poor illumination,” said the owner of shop in the vicinity.
“Despite several complaints to our councillor, unmindful dumping of garbage continues and the civic body does not bother to clear the heaps of garbage,” he said.
The poor condition of the terminus keeps the buses away from the terminus.
“As the place is full of potholes, most drivers hesitate to bring the buses inside and ask passengers to wait under the scorching sun,” pointed out a driver. MTC officials could not be reached for comment.
