Cameras at sub-registrar offices
The sub registrar offices across the state will soon be brought under the watchful âeyeâ of the government. It has been proposed to install IP cameras at the sub registrar offices to eliminate the middlemen and also to effectively monitor the functioning of the offices, state commercial taxes, registration and law minister C. Ve. Shanmugam said.
âThis move will help monitor the functioning of offices through web portal from the office of the inspector general of registration,â Mr Shanmugam said while winding up the debate on the demand for grants for his departments on Thursday.
The government would allocate about Rs 1,17.34 crore for developing the software to facilitate the safe online registration of documents for the public.
Also steps will be taken to enable the public to deposit the stamp and registration fee through banks.
The policy note tabled by the minister said the government has reduced the stamp duty on sale of immovable property from 6 per cent to 5 per cent and this change came into effect from April 1, this year. As a result, the government had to forego revenue of `600 crore per annum.
