In a first of its kind initiative, the state government has decided to set up a state resource centre in the city to help differently-abled children, chief minister Jayalalithaa said.
The centre would have specialised doctors associated with the ministry of social welfare and health and lifeskills training experts, besides experts and consultants from various fields, she said.
It would help in early diagnosis of the nature of disability and the treatment for it and also offer help to the disabled.
Financial assistance provided by the government would be issued through the centre, she said.
The chief minister said that a separate section would be opened at the centre to provide information on various institutes for differently-abled persons and a handbook with details of various such centres in the country would also be released.
