Chennai sweats it out on hottest July day in 3 years
Chennai on Thursday recorded the highest July temperature in three years at 38.8 degree Celsius.
The normal maximum temperature in July hovers around 35 degree Celsius.
The all-time maximum temperature was 41.1 degree Celsius recorded on July 4, 1915.
In 2011, the highest maximum temperature recorded in July was 38 degree Celsius, while in 2010 it was 36.8 degree Celsius.
"The temperature levels can continue in the same way for the next couple of days," said Dr S.R. Ramanan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre.
"The rise in mercury level is due to late onset of sea breeze." he added.
