City realtors fall prey to conmen, lose Rs 2.5 lakh
In two identical robberies, two realtors were targeted by conmen in different parts of the city, and robbed of Rs 2.5 lakh in cash stuffed in bags lying in their cars on Monday.
The first target was realtor Murugan of Siruserri, who was approached by a man while he was in his car in Flower Bazaar and told that a few 10 rupee notes were lying under it.
When he got out to take a look, the stranger escaped with a bag containing Rs 1 lakh that was in his car.
But the conman did not get all the booty as in his hurry to get rid of the bag he did not notice it had two bundles of Rs 50,000 each and took only one of them.
“A bundle of Rs 50,000 from one chamber of the bag was taken from the bag found discarded near a church, while the second bundle in another chamber was not touched.
A shopkeeper near the church noticed the bag and seeing a visiting card inside called Murugan and returned it to him with the cash,” the police said.
But Ganeshamoorthy,45, of Arumbakkam was not so lucky. He too was accosted by a stranger while in his Toyota car on Walajah Road and told that a few 10 rupee notes were lying under it.
When he got out to take a look for himself, the conman escaped with a bag filled with Rs 2 lakh in cash, according to the police.
