Civic body to set up asylum for stray dogs
With the stray dog menace being reported from areas recently annexed to the city corporation, the civic body will soon establish an asylum for stray dogs, corporation heath officer Dr. P Kuganantham said.
The top brass of the corporation is keen on reducing the stray dog menace in Chennai and hence the new project will benefit motorists often bitten and the helpless stray dogs.
The sites for establishing the asylums are yet to be identified but the project is under serious consideration and there may be two asylums if the project materialises.
Each asylum will be designed to house close to 2,000 stray dogs. A senior veterinary officer said the corporation had instructed its veterinary staff to study the Hyderabad and Bombay municipal corporation models.
