CM flags off new buses for state
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday flagged off 389 new and 75 renovated buses, adding 464 buses to the fleet of state transport undertakings.
An official release here said 250 new buses would be operated on new routes.
The new buses purchased for the state express transport corporation would have emergency exits, considering the safety of the passengers.
The purchase of 389 new buses followed chief minister’s announcement that the government would purchase 3,000 new buses at the cost of Rs 539.83 crore to replace buses, which served for six years or
driven for more than seven lakh kms, the release said.
Flagging off the new buses, Ms Jayalalithaa handed over keys of 16 new buses to drivers, advising them to adhere to safety norms.
Transport minister Senthil Balaji was present at the function organised at the central depot here.
