CM writes to PM again, seeks full K-plant power
CM J. Jayalalithaa made a fresh plea to PM Man-mohan Singh Wednesday to give entire electricity generated at Koodan-kulam Nuclear Power Plant to Tamil Nadu.
Drawing his attention to her March 31 letter, in which she had sought all of the 2,000 MW the two units at the plant would generate for the state to tide over its power crisis, CM urged PM to accept her absolutely justified demand.
“The first unit is expected to reach criticality in the following 20 days or so, leading to power generation,” she said, adding, “It is against this background that I take this opportunity to remind you of my earlier request. I am sure you will do the needful.”
Ms Jayalalithaa said details with regard to action on allocation of the entire power generated by the plant to the state were yet to be known.
“Now I understand nuclear fuel loading is going to take place in the next few days in the first unit of 1,000 MW,” she said.
In her March 31 letter, Ms Jayalalithaa had said it would be “proper and justifiable that the entire 2,000 MW to be generated at the plant is made available to the state in view of the severe power shortage.
As per the existing arrangement, Tamil Nadu has been allocated a share of 925 MW”.
