Cops among seven held for gambling

Two serving policemen and a suspended cop were among seven persons arrested by police for gambling during a raid at a hotel in Teynampet on Saturday.

Police sources identified the arrested policemen as constable Kannan of Madhavaram station and special sub inspector Muthuramalingam of Pallavaram station. Azmath, a special branch policeman who had been suspended, was also detained by the police team that raided the hotel where people were gambling in a rented room.

The city police may take departmental action against the arrested policemen.

Many people started hiring rooms in hotels in and around T Nagar to gamble after the city police started acting tough on ‘cultural clubs’ where gambling was a regaulr feature.
