Couple ignores undo call, ties knot
In a real-life Dum Dum Dum, a chartered accountant from Kodambakkam, Chennai, walked away with his college-student bride Friday as their fighting families were jailed.
Hari Krishnan, 28, and Silvia, 20, from Agaramthen in St. Thomas Mount taluk on the outskirts of the state capital, got engaged in May 2011 and were to wed in May this year.
The couple started meeting after the engagement and Cupid struck, but the girl’s family decided in December to call off the wedding saying the boy’s conduct was not up to the mark. It even demanded his family return engagement gifts and approached police.
This angered the boy’s family, which took a hard stance and vowed not to go ahead with the wedding.
The couple, however, was defiant and registered their union recently and began living separately in Tambaram.
Shocked, the families approached an all-woman police station in Tambaram Friday and began fighting. They soon became highly aggressive and almost came to blows forcing police to arrest 12 members.
