Crane lifting wharf crashes on fisherman in Kasimedu
A 44-year-old fisherman died after a crane lifting a piece of old wharf from sea crashed on him on Tuesday evening at Kasimedu fishing harbour.
The deceased was identified as M. Selvamani, a resident of Anna Nagar in Kasimedu.
He was engaged to dive into the sea and tie the wharf pieces for crane to lift. Five others, including the crane operator, were injured in the crash. All the injured were admitted to the hospital.
Police said the workers were trying to lift demolished pieces of old wharf from the sea when the crane crashed.
The crane crashed on him when Selvamani, with oxygen mask on his face rushed to remove a tricycle on the new wharf.
Local fishermen demanded compensation for the family of Selvamani.
