DC impact: Bricks removed from cables
Electricity Board officials swiftly responded to the report published in this newspaper on Wednesday (August 22) about bricks being tied to an overhead electric cable endangering the lives of the residents in suburban Thirunindravur.
Officials inspected the spot on Wednesday morning within a few hours of the paper reaching the stalls and on Thursday the bricks were removed and the damaged cable was replaced with a new one.
The residents heaved a huge sigh of relief when the Electricity Board officials rushed to the spot on Wednesday and initiated actions to address the hazard. “We are relieved now as the danger ‘hanging over’ our heads has gone.
We were living in fear for a year as the damaged wire could have had snapped any time leading to fatalities,” said Ms Uma Maheswari, echoing the views of residents of the Periyar Nagar neighbourhood in Thirunindravur.
“We thank DC as our complaints had fallen on deaf ears in the past year; but the officials quickly responded after it took up the issue.
But for the news report, one of us would have suffered the same fate as that of a dozen pigs that had died after the wire had snapped and fallen on them a few months ago,” she said.
The officials too contacted this newspaper before addressing the problem.
