With the commissioning of ongoing metro rail project, Alandur is all set to emerge as one of the important railway stations in the city’s rail network.

Alandur metro rail station would be the only station in the entire 45.1 km metro rail network where Washermanpet-airport and Chennai Central-St Thomas Mount corridors would be linked or rather passengers from both corridors would be able to swap the direction of their travel.

The two levels of the station have been designed to accommodate the merger of the corridors.

While passengers from Guindy going to OTA and airport would alight in level-I, those bound for Koyambedu-SIDCO-St Thomas Mount could embark at level-II.

The multi-leveled station will have four access points, two each for entry and exit from the front and two more on the rear on the ground floor.

As many as eight elevators and four lifts would be available on the ground floor to reach to level-I, wherefrom four escalators and lifts would lead to level-II.

CMRL has planned to install appropriate signages in both levels to avoid passengers’ confusion during change in travel direction.

Also, an intermediate level would be developed between ground floor and level-I for use by authorities for maintenance works in the station.

As many as 18 automatic ticket vending machines and 10 ticket counters would be available at Alandur station.

Exclusive facilities like separate entry ramps, toilets and lift opening have been designed for easy accommodation of the differently-abled people.

CMRL authorities plan to make the entire station a landmark by giving it an elegant elevation that would accommodate all station activities.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
