Dutch man held in murder case
Kancheepuram police on Sunday arrested Remco Elizabeth Martin Joseph Knocker, 33, of the Netherlands, for allegedly killing his girlfriend on Wednesday night in a house in Mahabalipuram where the two were staying.
Knocker told police of the death of Jose Vandy Villite Johanna, 36, an insurance company clerk, only on Friday morning.
On Wednesday night some unidentified people who barged into the house attacked him, he claimed, adding that he fell unconscious and found his girlfriend dead when he regained consciousness the next morning.
On Sunday, police arrested the man, as his statements had a lot of contradictions.
“We could not see any marks of serious assaults on Remco Elizabeth Martin Joseph Knocker’s body expect some nail marks. People had seen him trying to dig a pit on Thursday, probably to bury his girlfriend without informing the police about the death. He had purchased a shovel for this purpose,” police sources said.
“The man had not confessed but the police believe that there was a major dispute going between the two. Many people had noticed the two quarreling. It looked like the man brought his girlfriend to India for the fifth time to kill her here,” the sources said.
The police also noted that both were drunk that day and the two had also taken hashish, adding that they had also got a statement from a person to whom the Dutch man had spoken to about the crime.
