Emirates flight makes emergency landing in chennai
A Jakarta-bound Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai made an unscheduled landing at Chennai airport on Sunday after a Saudi Arabian native Mohammed Fawaz, 40, complained of chest pain.
Mohammed, who was travelling with his wife and two children, suddenly developed chest pain onboard and his wife raised an alarm.
The airhostess informed the pilot who, after ascertaining the nearby airport, requested Chennai air traffic control for unscheduled landing citing medical emergency.
The city ATC official took permission from headquarters and allowed landing of the flight on the Chennai tarmac.
The flight carrying 247 passengers landed in Chennai airport at 1.45 pm and left an hour later after offloading the patient and his family. The four people were also given temporary visas to enter the airport premises.
The airport doctor immediately checked the passenger and diagnosed the chest pain as having been caused only by gas trouble.
Airport sources said the Emirates Airlines decided to send the passenger and his family back to Dubai by an evening flight as the airlines does not operate a direct flight to Jakarta.
