Erode corporation commissioner to appear before HC
The Madras high court has directed the Erode corporation commissioner, Balachandran, to appear before it on March 28 in person and file a report on the compliance of directions given by the court on the appointment of 14 persons for menial work.
Justice S. Tamilvanan had earlier asked the corporation commissioner to consider the plea of Kathirvel and 13 others sympathetically for the available vacancies for menial work and to comply with the guidelines in a May 27, 1999, GO of the municipal administration and water supply department.
The judge said the report by the commissioner should mention similar posts that were filled up and how many vacancies existed in the corporation for menial work and to state the difficulties in implementing the May 1999 G.O and other connected G.Os. It was clarified that if the order was not complied with in letter and spirit, it was to be construed as contempt.
