European flavour for Tamil Naduschemes
Various schemes proposed by the Tamil Nadu government are likely to get a European touch.
With a delegation of state officials led by the state transport minister returning from Budapest after attending a week-long seminar on public transportation and urban development, the government is likely to adopt a few European models in these spheres.
“The seminar pertained to public transport, parking reforms, city redevelopment and seamless ticketing scheme. It was really useful for us and the state government will try to emulate some of the issues which were discussed there.
The seminar was well attended by experts from various spheres across the world,” one of the delegates who attended the Budapest seminar told Deccan Chronicle on Monday.
“In the backdrop of the state government taking serious measures to implement the common ticketing system in Chennai for all modes of transport, the seminar enlightened us with various constructive suggestions that would be useful when the scheme is implemented,” he added.
The three-day seminar in the Hungarian capital witnessed participation from government officials from various developed countries and private firms who shared their expertise regarding novel schemes being implemented. It was organised by a New York-based NGO that also functions from India.
State transport minister Senthil Balaji, urban development minister M. Vaithilingam, principal secretary Braj Kishore Prasad, housing and urban development secretary Phanindra Reddy and corporation commissioner Karthikeyan took part in the seminar.
