Evaluation teachers sweat it out
Teachers evaluating plus-two papers have a tough time as power cuts interfere with their correction.
The evaluation of answer sheets began on April 2 at 47 centres in the state.
Due to 2-3 hour power cuts, teachers evaluate papers at evaluation centres without lights and fans.
A teacher, seeking anonymity, said, “We can’t correct papers during power cuts. In our centre at Pudukottai, there is no proper ventilation and also no natural light to see the papers clearly. Starting at 8.30 am, the corrections go on till 5 pm and for major subjects, the teachers evaluate even till 8 pm.”
Another teacher said, “We were happy that students didn’t have difficulty during the exams as the government provided generators. We expect the government to provide us also with generators as we can evaluate the papers without sweating and there will be proper lighting.”
Class 10 board exams end on April 23 and after a few days, evaluation will start at another 66 centres.
Sami. Sathyamoorthy, state general secretary, association of heads of high and higher secondary schools of Tamil Nadu, said, “Teachers evaluating at camps face a lot of difficulties during power cuts. It’s not that easy to correct major papers and that too when there’s no light or fan.” A camp officer at an evaluation centre said they discussed the issue with the authorities.
"We were asked to use generators and we don't have any complaints regarding this," he said. Ms Vasundhara Devi, director of government examinations, was not available for comment.
