Ex-Congress MLA under DVAC scanner
Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Saturday conducted raids at the residence of former Congress MLA C. Gnanasekaran and his family members.
A team led by DVAC Vellore DSP Balasubramaniam first raided the MLA's house at Chattuvacheri in Vellore district at 10 am.
Gnanasekaran was quizzed for hours during the day-long raid at Chattuvacheri, while other teams raided the house of his brother C. Gunasekaran at Vellukuttai in Vellore.
His doctor son Naveen's house at Valasarawakkam in the city and a couple of lodges run by the MLA at Vadapalani and Vaniyambadi were also raided.
Not long ago, the former Congress whip in the Assembly hit the headlines for allegedly encroaching land belonging to the Vellore corporation.
Police sources said some crucial documents were collected during the raid conducted to unearth assets disproportionate to his income that the four-time Vellore MLA had allegedly generated during his tenure as MLA.
Gnanasekaran later told media persons outside his residence that the raids were politically motivated and would face the cases legally.
Gnanasekaran is the lone Congress face in the state to come under the DVAC scanner since the AIADMK returned to power in May 2011.
Sources said the sleuths waited for four hours before entering Gnanasekaran's Chattuvacheri house as he was not available then.
Gnanasekaran who served as deputy whip during the previous DMK regime lost the election in May 2011 when his Congress party and ally DMK faced a massive rout. A vocal critic of pro-LTTE groups, Gnanasekaran's son married AIADMK MP Tambidurai's daughter.
