Ezhilmigu Chennai to get designer roads, flyovers
City corporation officials are working overtime to improve the aesthetic beauty of the city under the ‘Ezhilmigu Chennai’ idea proposed by chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Under this scheme, 70 arterial roads, bridges and flyovers would get a facelift. Besides sprucing up Neelankarai beach, a high-mast lamp will be installed there to ensure lighting and safety for beach-goers, corporation sources said.
A senior corporation official said an NGO working on city infrastructure has been entrusted with the job of designing roads and existing flyovers.
Representatives of the NGO have designed 16 roads and five bridges till date. Most of the roads and flyovers designed are in South Chennai. Soon the roads and bridges in north and Central Chennai would be studied for designing.
Mayor Saidai Duraisamy has instructed the team to study and develop design for all bridges so that the corporation can begin the beautification work as early as possible.
Tenders to beautify the roads are likely to be floated soon. The roads after restoration would wear a word-class look and also sport new toilets.
New sign boards and advertisement display boards will be added to the existing roads to improve the look and also to bring in revenue for the corporation, the corporation official added.
