Facelift for Courtallam, Tiruttani, Sittanavasal
Courtallam, known as the spa of the south, and the temple town of Tiruttani will have more amenities to meet the visitors’ requirement soon.
Anticipating huge rush to these spots, the state government has decided to take up massive infrastructure development work for about Rs 5 crore each.
“The main objective of the scheme is to improve the places and also the surroundings with an aim to promote them as ideal destinations in the state,” an official said.
Both the spots have been selected under the destination development scheme of the Union tourism ministry.
Courtallam and Tiruttani — one of the six abodes of Lord Subrahmanya — would be made more attractive with landscaping and illumination besides improving basic amenities.
Located 84 km northwest of Chennai, the temple is situated on a hillock. Three-hundred and sixty-five steps leading to the shrine represents the days in a year.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Kancheepuram district the state tourism department has proposed to develop Sriperumbudur, the birthplace of saint Ramanujar, and promote it as a pilgrim centre for the Saivaites.
About Rs 5 crore has been set apart by the Union tourism ministry for improving infrastructure at Sriperumbudur.
Another Rs 5 crore would be spent on tourism promotion and infrastructure creation works at Sittanavasal.
