Ficci seeks state push for power

Industry body Ficci on Monday sought a big push to power sector in the state government along with rapid computerization of processes across various government departments to help Tamil Nadu become the top investment destination.

Releasing the report titled ‘Empowering India-Redesigning G2B Relations Tamil Nadu’ at its national executive committee meeting here, Ficci said the state has to focus on easing the process of doing business by adopting computerisation of its processes and making them available online.

Lauding chief minister J. Jayalalitahaa’s Vision 2023 document, Ficci president R. V. Kanoria said, “We are prepared to help Tamil Nadu achieve development.

We want a big push to power sector and we hope the state becomes power-surplus.” With many power generation projects including Koodankulam nuclear project underway, he hoped the state would “resolve” the power issues and ensure attaining “supremacy in attracting investments.”

Speaking at the meeting, state finance minister O. Panneerselvam called for “partners who can see growth in the old and the new economy, and participate in the generation and creation of wealth’’.

Inviting investors, industries minister P. Thangamani reiterated the commitment of the government to “establish strong and vibrant Tamil Nadu as new growth model in India’’.
