Fire at Aavin dairy complex chars garbage
A fire broke out in the garbage piled up at the Aavin dairy complex in Sholinganallur at 10:45 am on Sunday, burning scores of damaged milk packets, dry coconut fronds and cardboard boxes.
A few coconut trees were also charred in the fire.
Two fire tenders, supported by several water tankers, were pressed into service to douse the fire that was put out by fire service personnel after nearly five hours.
The backyard of the dairy complex was littered with old plastic bottles, used empty milk packets, and cardboard boxes. An earth mover was used to push the plastic waste to one side to prevent it from catching fire.
According to the fire control room, Aavin suffered no losses because only garbage was burnt.
All the installations were safe and no usable material was damaged in the fire, informed the fire service officials.
Senior Aavin officials and the minister for dairy development V. Moorthy visited the spot.
