Fire at it firm spreads panic

A fire that broke out in the generator room after suspected diesel leak at the BPO, Sutherland’s office in Velachery filled the neighbourhood with smoke. The incident occurred when the generator was started during the power cut.

“Luckily the fire was put out before it spread to the huge underground fuel storing sump which has a capacity of 20,000 litres. It stopped with a small tank that was near the generator room,” fire department sources said.

They said they had no knowledge of it when asked if the building had the required licence to store huge quantities of fuel. Five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.

Meanwhile, building owner C. Devadasa Sundaram, CMD of CeeDeeYes infrastructure Pvt Ltd, said that Sutherland built the fuel storage facility without his knowledge.
