Flu hits 2 in city, 4 Kovaiites

Two more children in the city were diagnosed with swine flu on Monday while four more people tested positive for the virus at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) just a few days after a 52-year-old man tested positive.

Health officials on Monday said that a three-year-old boy in Mylapore and a 11-year-old girl from Royapettah who showed symptoms of swine flu tested positive for A(H1N1) virus. Following this, they were admitted to private hospitals in the city for treatment.

A senior health official confirmed that their condition was stable. The relatives of the infected children have been asked to undergo tests for swine flu if they showed symptoms of the virus. Seventeen persons in the city have been affected by A(H1N1) virus so far.

Meanwhile, the number of people who tested positive for the virus rose to seven in Coimbatore, including a four-year-old girl.

Hospital sources said four patients were undergoing treatment in the hospital along with Bommainaicker, the 52-year-old man, who tested positive a few days ago and is quarantined in the special ward.

All seven patients were quarantined and their condition is stable, the sources said. Six patients admitted following symptoms of swine flu underwent swap tests and four of them tested positive, the sources said.

Meanwhile, CMCH, which has administered 500 hospital staff with the first dose of the H1N1 influenza vaccine, does not have stock of the vaccine for the public.
