Footpath dwellers’ child kidnapped
A three-month-old girl sleeping with her mother was reportedly kidnapped from a footpath dwelling on Barnabadi Salai near Ponniyamman temple in Kilpauk on Monday night.
Kalaiyarasi saw her daughter being placed inside an autorickshaw by an unknown man around 11.15 pm.
By the time she started shouting for help the autorickshaw had sped away from the scene, she said in her complaint to the local police.
Kalayarasi, the wife of Mani, a cook at a local hotel, said she woke up to see one of her twin daughters being taken away by a stranger.
She and Mani were very worried about the child because a dog bit her few days ago. “I was advised not to breast feed her because she was bitten by a dog. So she was sleeping 2 feet away,” said a grief stricken Kalayarasi.
“We have not yet named the girls. Before we could, one of my daughters has been kidnapped,” she said.
Kalayarasi said that her father started living in that dwelling 40 years ago and she, her brothers and sisters were all born in the same place.
Incidents such as kidnapping of children had never happened on that street, she said.
