Free surgery block at Chennai eye hospital
A city eye hospital on Saturday launched an operation theatre block exclusively for free surgeries.
The state of the art facility at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital on Cathedral Road, which was inaugurated by world chess champion Viswanathan Anand, has three operating rooms where dozens of poor patients will receive free cataract surgeries every day.
The 55-year-old hospital already performs a large number of charitable procedures and a dedicated centre for free treatment would make it convenient for patients and hospital staff.
Dr. Amar Agarwal, the chairman of the hospital, however, said that the same specialists would treat both categories of patients.
“As a tribute to Viswanathanan Anand’s international victory, we have performed 100 free cataract surgeries for the poor.
We are glad that he is part of our new venture to ensure that good quality eye care reaches every individual irrespective of his economic status,” said Dr Agarwal.
