Gandhian urges tn to look beyond TASMAC
Renowned Gandhian, Tamilaruvi Manian’s Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu government to enforce total prohibition.
The organisation unveiled a pamphlet on how resources can be generated from alternate sources to make up for the current `18,000 crore from sale of liquor.
In the report released by MDMK general secretary Vaiko and CPI state secretary Pandian at a function here, Mr Manian said the government can make up for revenue loss due to prohibition by intensifying sales tax collection, undertaking austerity measures and bridging the gap between guideline value and market value that would help enhance the stamp duty revenue.
Demanding immediate closure of elite bars, the movement urged the state to immediately reduce business hours of Tasmac wine shops to five hours and gradually introduce total prohibition.
The movement also pressed for increasing the minimum age for consumption of alcohol to 25 years.
