Health scheme to help farmers
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has ordered the expansion of the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme to include those registered under the Farmers’ Protection Scheme as members.
An official release here on Thursday said this would ensure those from the agricultural community obtain quality treatment, thus ensuring improvement of their health and better productivity.
“The chief minister who is concerned over the welfare of farmers has ordered that those registered with the Farmers’ Protection Scheme be covered under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme,” the release added.
The insurance scheme launched by Ms. Jayalalithaa in January provides Rs 4 lakh coverage per family for four years. About Rs 1.50 lakh cover is being provided for some specific treatments.
The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, being implemented through the United India Insurance Company Ltd, provides free treatment in government and private hospitals for families with an annual income of less than Rs 72,000.
This cashless hospitalisation scheme is offered on a floater basis for ailments and procedures covering 1,016 procedures, 113 follow-up procedures and 23 diagnostic procedures.
The cost of tests required for treatment would also be part of the insurance cover.
