Hostel warden held for branding boys
Kanchipuram police has arrested Pushaparani, a woman warden of a school for orphans in Naduveerapattu near Tambaram, for allegedly torturing two inmates of the hostel.
Two children from the private school for orphans, who reportedly escaped from the hostel on May 3, told their parents they were tortured by the warden, according to police. The boys claimed that the warden used hot iron rods to brand them.
The boys, Ilangovan, 10, of Koyambedu, and Manimaran, 14, of Kallkurchi, reached the former’s house and informed their relatives that they were tortured and would not go back to the hostel.
A relative consoled the students and sent Manimaran to his house in Kallakurichi the same day.
“It seems Manimaran did not go to his house and a relative, Santhi, went to the hostel to meet him on Saturday. The warden informed her that the boy was not in the hostel.
Following this, the two families lodged a complaint with the Somangalam police station based on the complaint. “The families and police are searching for the boy Manimaran,” the police said.
