India’s leading law firm opens branch in Chennai
Amarchand Mangaldas, one of India’s biggest law firms, launched its Chennai office on Friday. It
will specialise in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, capital market, private equity and private clients, real estate and corporate.
“There are plenty of opportunities in Chennai. We intend to offer the above services as there’s a vacuum in these areas. People in Chennai have to outsource lawyers for M&A and there’s absolutely no expertise in capital market,” said Dorothy Thomas, partner and office head of Amarchand Mangaldas. Dorothy, a highly experienced Indian attorney, joined Amarchand Mangaldas in February 2012.
“Our existing clients are happy with our quality service. In fact at the launch we had client testimonials as we started our client service from February,” she said.
“Amarchand Mangaldas has a broader vision and we will offer quality services and are committed to the market. We’re confident and want to assist in the growth of Tamil Nadu,” said Dorothy.
The Chennai practice also comprises a practice group on disputes - both litigation and arbitration. At the launch, Cyril Shroff, managing partner of Amarchand Mangaldas, M. Damodaran, former chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India and Bharat Vasani, chief legal and group general counsel, Tata Group, were present.
