Intelligence seizes heroin worth Rs10 crore at railway station
In a major haul, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 6.6 kg of heroin valued at Rs10 crore in the international market and arrested five people — four “carriers”, including two women, as well as the kingpin, a Sri Lankan national, who had come to the receive the drug near Central railway station.
Acting on specific information that four people from Madhya Pradesh, travelling by the Tamil Nadu Express from Bhopal, were involved in drug trafficking and would bring 6 kg of heroin, DRI officials intercepted them at the Central station and seized the drug on Friday morning.
The four were carrying a travelling bag each and on examination it was found that each carried 1.6 kg of heroin concealed in a plastic bag in their bags, which had false bottoms, a DRI release said.
On the basis of inputs given by the carriers, the officials nabbed the kingpin who had come to receive the contraband, while he was waiting outside the station in a car.
In related searches, the officials seized material used for packing the drugs for onward movement, the car used by the kingpin and ` 4.30 lakh in cash.
