IPS officer's ex-girlfriend alleges threat calls
The ongoing tussle between trainee IPS officer Varun Kumar and Priya Darshini, who claims that he had promised to marry her, took a fresh turn on Tuesday with the woman telling police that she had started receiving threats from unidentified people ever since an FIR was filed against her former boyfriend.
Priya Darshini, who works in a media organisation in Chennai, had initially lodged a complaint against Kumar on December 9 alleging that he had demanded dowry to marry her and that he had outraged her modesty.
City police had registered an FIR on April 26 only after a court asked police for the reason behind delay in registering an FIR against Kumar and his parents.
“Since then, my family members and I are facing a chain of strange, terrifying and intimidating incidents.
Even the companies where those friends of mine, who had given statements against Varun are working, had received letters questioning their reputation,” Priya Darshini said.
“For merely being bold enough to register their voice against an IPS official my witnesses are being threatened. They are also receiving anonymous threat calls,” she said.
She also fears her mobile numbers are being tapped and said she had seen strangers following her.
