IT firms asked to keep complaint boxes on site
The city police has asked all information technology firms, particularly those on the IT highway, to keep complaint boxes in which women employees can drop their complaints about eve teasing, sexual harassment and any other crime against them.
“Women employees need not give their name and personnel details. However, if they bring incidents to our notice, it will help us take action,” Thoraipakkam assistant commissioner, Mohamed Aslam, said.
The police official asked senior executives of the IT firms on Rajiv Gandhi Salai aka IT highway aka Old Mahabalipuram Road who attended a liaison meeting to put up complaint boxes to receive grievances from women employees.
The initiative comes after police noticed some minor incidents of trouble for women software professionals on the IT highway.
“Senior officials have decided to put a night patrol vehicle exclusively for the Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram radial road as we found that many IT employees use that road at night to go home after work,” the police said.
Women employees have been advised by the police not to travel alone at night. “Note down the registration number of the vehicle you are hiring at night and SMS it to your family member or friend. It can help the police later if anything goes wrong during the journey,” a police official said.
